How It Works

How our English speaking clubs
work step-by-step.

If you’ve never been to a speaking club before, you might wonder how it works. Our speaking clubs are structured, professionally planned, and designed to help participants speak English confidently — without pressure or awkward silence.

Hosted on Zoom · Led by a British native speaker · Suitable for all organisations.

How the speaking club runs

Every speaking club follows the same simple, effective process. This keeps things organised, enjoyable, and highly productive.

1
A topic is chosen
Each session has an interesting, professionally prepared topic. This ensures the conversation never runs dry. It is not a random chat — it’s structured speaking practice.
2
Welcome + introduction
You join the Zoom call and are welcomed by the native speaker host. After some friendly small talk, the topic for the day is introduced.
3
Warm-up as one group
The host asks a few opening questions for everyone to answer. This helps people relax and gets the conversation moving naturally.
4
Breakout Room 1
You are paired with a partner for 6–7 minutes. The topic materials appear on screen (and in the chat) to guide the discussion.
5
Back to the main room
You return to the full group. The host asks follow-up questions, gets feedback, and keeps everything flowing.
6
New partner, new task
You return to a new breakout room with a new partner. New questions or a short speaking task help you develop fluency naturally.

This cycle continues — group discussion, breakout rooms, follow-up questions — until the 60 minutes are complete. Most participants are surprised by how quickly the time flies and how much they speak.

What if my group is very small?

If a group has only 3 people or fewer, the format changes slightly. In this case, the native speaker host runs the entire 60-minute speaking club without using breakout rooms.

1 group · No breakout rooms
Some organisations prefer one-room speaking clubs. This is absolutely fine — just tell us your preference. Breakout rooms are recommended for maximum speaking time, but both formats work well.
